HBNS
An oilfield located in North Africa is operated by a joint operating association between a national company and a major international operator.
The oilfield was brought on production in the late 90's with an initial production capacity of 60,000 barrels of oil per day. The central production facility (CPF) was later expanded to cater for increased production and the combined production capacity has reached over a ¼ million barrels of oil per day. The oilfield development consists of an extensive and disperse network of wells, flowlines, field gathering stations and trunklines. The trunklines feed the central processing facility which house processing equipments.
The client has experienced several failures in the oil producing flowlines. Root cause analyses carried out by CAPCIS have concluded that the failures were attributed to internal corrosion. As a result, CAPCIS was contracted by the client to provide corrosion management support to assess the extent of the problem.
The services provided by CAPCIS during the completion of the project included:
- Inspection programme management: project implementation, HSE risk assessments, coordination, logistics and sub-contractors.
- On-site NDT inspection services: conventional and specialised inspection techniques (Phased Array Inspection, Long Range Ultrasonic Testing).
- Corrosion consultancy services: corrosion risk assessments, failure investigations, fitness for purpose analysis, feasibility study and specialist consultancy.
- Development and implementation of a Corrosion Management Database.
The successful completion of the project by CAPCIS has enabled the client to prioritise remedial repairs for next shutdown and to determine appropriate corrosion mitigation techniques. In the longer term, the project emphasised the importance of implementing a plant integrity program comprising of chemical injection, inspection, corrosion monitoring and consultancy.
