CORROSION RESISTANT ALLOY TESTING
Super duplex, super austenitic and the family of nickel alloys are widely used in the oil and gas industry where corrosion resistance is required in saline environments and there has been a considerable amount of test data published that reviews their performance in seawater applications and brine handling. However there is a gap in the industry knowledge where these materials are exposed to highly concentrated brines containing oxygen at raised temperatures.
A process application that uses brine and seawater in combined modes at brine concentrations approaching saturation with oxygen present presented a challenge for materials selection with little if any published data on which to base any decision.
Capcis carried out corrosion tests on a range of materials (supplied by 3rd parties) under simulated conditions that used concentrated brine at 60 degree C, containing varying levels of oxygen. The results plugged a hole in the industry knowledge base and provided the information necessary to reach an informed decision for the material selection process.
