PIPELINE
INTEGRITY MANAGEMENT CAPCIS
have developed a bespoke Corrosion Management System for
a major North Sea operator, which has enabled onshore
facilities, offshore installations and subsea pipelines
to be assessed in a consistent manner. Using the CAPCIS
Coram / WSE system , corrosion risks and inspection
strategies have been defined. The system has been designed
specifically to integrate into the existing corporate
management and integrity management practices of the client.
The client has adopted a strategy whereby the overall Integrity Management for the onshore and offshore assets has been retained in-house. CAPCIS has provided an Integrity Assurance role on behalf of the client, informing and working in co-operation with the existing inspection provider. Key characteristics of this work are:
- Consistency of approach across all onshore, offshore and pipeline assets;
- Consolidation of available asset data into common systems;
- System embedded in change management process, both design and operations, across all client assets;
- Rigorous authoritative review process established for change management;
A phased approach has been adopted in order to ensure successful implementation and integration into existing management systems. The system was initially set up for the onshore facility. Hands on use of the system, and regular HSE audits have developed confidence in its use and ensured that it was fully embedded into existing processes. Using this onshore facility system as a template, a system was set up for one offshore installation before being rolled out to the other facilities. Incorporation of offshore regulations and additional corrosion mechanisms has enabled one generic system to be delivered that meets both offshore and onshore requirements.
The system has now been handed over to the operator, who is managing asset integrity in-house. Successful integration has ensured that it is a key component of the management of change process, which ensures process and engineering change are captured.
The CRA/WSE engine has also been modified to facilitate the assessment of pipelines. Year-on-year corrosion degradation since installation has been modelled by taking into account process and operational changes, subsea and topside inspection information, corrosion and process monitoring data. This approach has enabled the development of a probability profile for each of the subsea pipelines leading to a fully traceable degradation assessment, which acts as justification for inspection strategies.
The system is now fully available to the incumbent inspection contractor and future work will seek to link additional existing systems to the CORAM / WSE engine and develop comprehensive KPI reporting at both an integrity and business level.
