CHALLENGE: SUPPORTING ASSET MANAGEMENT
Infrastructure projects are as much about strategies and processes within complex contract structures as about design and construction. CAPCIS have an established track record of acting as prime consultant for corrosion, materials, stray current and CP design on major infrastructure projects.
For new projects, we operate as an extension of the
owning authority taking overall stewardship responsibility
to the development of project specifications, through
bidder evaluation and negotiation, to contractor audit.
Alternatively we work as an integral part of the selected
contracting consortia providing advice on all material
and protection issues as well as undertaking individual
packages of work covering; the development of operating
philosophies; the design of corrosion management systems
covering both CP and Stray Current; and the design and
supply of condition monitoring equipment.
For existing assets we work directly for the utility / asset owner or the incumbent O&M contractor to provide effective corrosion and material condition asset management; providing discrete condition assessment services and the longer term provision of operational support programmes.
Our role across the Transportation and Utility sectors is continually growing, aided by our appreciation of the commercial and contracting structures that govern large infrastructure projects, our detailed science and engineering understanding, practical knowledge, laboratory and site measurement facilities and operational resource support.
For example, on behalf of the Manchester Metrolink
Light Rail Transit System, CAPCIS are viewed by all
parties as providing an independent asset stewardship
role that included (in 2002) a 10-year stray current
performance audit, including design, management and
execution of comprehensive surveys across utility services
and railway infrastructures.
